The Gathering at Minneriya (Seasonal)
Between August and October, hundreds of wild elephants converge on the same open lakebed at Minneriya in what is one of the great wildlife spectacles of Asia. At its peak, animals of every age and social grouping are visible from a single viewpoint in numbers that are difficult to fully absorb even when you are standing in the middle of it.
Elephant Transit Home, Udawalawe
The Elephant Transit Home on the Udawalawe park boundary rehabilitates orphaned calves for return to the wild without habituating them to human contact. The morning feeding session is one of Sri Lanka’s most genuinely moving wildlife encounters, particularly when understood in the context of the full rehabilitation programme.
